Muscle weakness in critically ill patients is one of the most common problems in patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and early mobilization and electrical stimulation (EE) are techniques commonly applied by physical therapists to reverse the condition. To analyze the benefits provided by EE, in critically ill patients and those assisted in the ICU. Literature review, through clinical trials published between 2002 and 2019. The search involved the LILACS, SciELO, MedLine and PEDro databases, using the descriptors “intensive care unit”, “physiotherapy therapies”, “neurophysiotherapy” , "electro-stimulation". Of the articles analyzed, three indicated significant benefits of EE, in critically ill patients, such as improvement in peripheral muscle strength, exercise capacity, functionality or loss of muscle layer thickness. The application of electrical stimulation promotes a beneficial response in critically ill patients admitted to the ICU.
