Impacts of noise on critical patient recovery and routine of nurses in the intensive care unit: integrative review

The intensive care unit is a place in the hospital where critical patients are cared for, who need constant monitoring, support and maintenance of vital parameters, resulting in the use of many hospitals equipment that generate noise during its operation. To analyze the impacts of noise in the intensive care unit on the treatment of critically ill patients and healthcare professionals. Integrative literature review research, qualitative analysis, with a bibliographic survey of articles about noise in the intensive care unit and how they affect the mental and physical state of both the team and the patient. To search for articles, the platforms Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) were used. Through the descriptors: Noise; Intensive care unit; Nursing and Patient A total of 125 articles were found, and after systematic reading, 11 articles were selected that addressed the proposed theme. Sound noise levels in intensive care units are high and cause physical and mental impacts on patients and professionals working in the sector. The study showed that basic actions significantly reduce excess sounds, and one of the main practices is the proper adjustment of mechanical ventilator alarms and monitors.
