Reinforced concrete is identified as one of the main products produced by the construction industry, with maintenance being of great importance, in order to preserve and meet the objectives for which it was designed, as well as to ensure the lives of users who it has, mainly nowadays, in which over the years, technological advances demand more and more from the market, in association with the degree of demands of the users. The study addresses the main pathological manifestations found along the structure of the central library building at the Federal University of Maranhão (CEB Velho). The study is characterized by being descriptive and qualitative in nature, with a bibliographic bias, where articles, dissertations, theses and technical studies were consulted that served as the basis for sustaining the ideas discussed throughout the work. The main objective is to analyze the manifestations, diagnose them and propose solutions to the identified problems, based on the knowledge provided in the literature. Several signs of section loss were identified, that is, loss of functional and structural characteristics, as well as signs of corrosion in metallic elements. Furthermore, the corrosive effect on the reinforced concrete resulted in some points loss of session (displacing), as well as the inexistence of a maintenance plan for old buildings, making it necessary to establish more routine inspections, thus, emergency corrective actions are proposed, covering and measures aimed at minimizing the deterioration of structures.
