Abstract

The term “urban void” is conceptualized and classified by several authors, each taking into account the particularities of the place where the study was carried out, but all depart from the same assumption, they are large unused or underutilized areas surrounded by infrastructure and public services. within the urban fabric. One of the main causes of urban voids is disorderly occupation and real estate speculation, with urban subdivisions contributing to this. Therefore, this work aims to identify this problem in the city of Porto Nacional - TO, in addition to exposing different concepts and classifications for urban voids, as well as informing the main applied policies and possible solutions to make these regions integral parts of cities. For this, bibliographical research was carried out in search of the main authors who address this theme, later the articles, books and relevant legislation were selected, research was also carried out in the field with photographic records. Soon, it was found that the city of Porto Nacional has many unused areas mainly due to the creation of subdivisions in a disorderly and sudden way. It is also noted that the concepts of urban voids have been widely applied among architects and urban planners, becoming a very relevant theme, being fundamental for urban planning, the characterization, identification, location and zoning of these areas, in order to enable interventions that aim to use these regions for the development of urban centers.
